Pamela Johnson’s latest book, The Mother Puzzle, is her first non-fiction narrative. It explores her mother’s hidden past, taking her on a search for the Yorkshire family she never met.

She has published three novels, Under Construction, Deep Blue Silence, and Taking In Water, which was supported by an Arts Council Writers’ Award. She has also published short stories, poems, non-fiction and journalism.

For sixteen years she taught fiction on the MA in Creative & Life Writing, Goldsmiths, University of London gaining a reputation for nurturing new writers. She has devised writing workshops for schools, community groups, and residential courses for The Arvon Foundation

She previously worked as an independent critic, curator and lecturer on contemporary visual art. Her essays, articles and reviews on contemporary visual art and craft have appeared in journals, broadsheets and gallery publications. She has curated national touring exhibitions and reviewed for Radio 4’s Kaleidoscope and Front Row.
